Exciting and challenging experiences await the 3rd graders at our school. In Language Arts we will study a variety of genres and explore reading strategies through the pages of our Open Court Anthology. We also will experience novels such as "Stone Fox," "Ramona Quimby, Age 8," "Charlotte's Web," "Bunnicula" "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Sideways Stories from Wayside School,"etc. Students will also sharpen their writing skills through a variety of writing experiences this year. We are becoming "Mathemagicians" as we investigate diverse mathematical strategies, concepts and skills in the areas of Place Value, Computation, Measurement, Fractions, geometry, Probability, Statistics and Data Collection, Multiplication and Division, and Problem Solving. We will also learn to apply math startegies to science and social studies projects. Santa Barbara County's rich, cultural, historical, and geographic characteristics are the main focus of our Social Studies curriculum. Students will travel to the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum, Art Museum, Mission, Presidio, Botanic Gardens, and Courthouse to gather a firsthand appreciation of the rich historical community we live in. In Science the 3rd grade students will investigate the Survival of Living Things in Life Science, Matter and Energy in Physical Science, and the Solar System in Earth Science by implementing the scienctific method during their investigations. Music, Art, Technology training, and Physical Education specialists round out our rich 3rd grade curriculum at La Patera School.
